Honoring The Other Mothers In Your Life

Remembering and recognizing the efforts of being a great mom is what Mother’s Day is all about. This holiday, in addition to my mom, I’d like to recognize and honor all the other mothers in my life.

These women have helped me fine-tune and adjust my parenting style so that I can be a better mom. One friend showed me how placing a gentle hand on her son’s shoulder can get his attention far better than raising her voice.

Another told me that when her child’s ears turn red, she knows it’s a sign he’s getting sick. This reminds me to be more attentive to my own children. I watched yet another mom model how to get her son to open up and talk. Instead of asking him, “How was your day?” she asks, “What did you have for lunch today?” He likes food and she knows it!

Are there mothers whom you feel do a terrific job of being a mom? A simple yet meaningful way of honoring them is to send a personal email or handwritten note. Something unexpected is always more appreciated, and the smallest gesture can make a big impact. Happy Mother’s Day!
