You have arrived in East Lyme, CT and are immediately taken by the beautiful scenery and the friendly locals who welcome thousands of tourists every year. It certainly looks like a wonderful vacation spot. The question is, what is there do in East Lyme once you soak in all the scenery? Let’s start with the most fun (and obvious) East Lyme attractions.
The Children's Museum of Southeastern CT is a museum, but it is a more interactive and kid-friendly museum than you have ever seen before. There is over 5,000 square feet of educational fun. Though only hosted on one floor (which is a blessing to folks who are not keen on walking numerous flights of stairs) there are all sorts of exhibits dedicated to arts, sciences, health and culture. The exhibits are meant for children ages one year to nine years of age. Some of the most exciting exhibits include live animals and science experiments, fishing boat piloting, the climbing wall and a real 2-person research submarine.
What are some things to do in East Lyme that don’t involve rambunctious tykes, petting zoos and submarines? Don’t worry; there is plenty for adults to do in this diverse town. Many of the locals and the tourists are very fond of outdoor activity. The Niantic Bay Boardwalk is a nice sight to see, while the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve provides lots of good hiking space.
The public beaches of East Lyme include McCook's Point Park, the Hole-in-the-Wall Beach and the Rocky Neck State Park. At the beach, you can take part in sports, enjoy getting a tan, go swimming, or go fishing and clamming. Local parks in the area include the Samuel M. Peretz Park and Cini Park.
There are also many fun events in East Lyme that you can celebrate with the family. These might include summer fun like the Niantic Bay 10k Road Race, the Celebrate East Lyme Festival, the 32nd Annual LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ and the 50th Niantic Outdoor Arts & Crafts Show. Whether you are a kid or an adult, there is plenty to see and do in this historical beach town!
